"Staying with a host family is very nice and comfortable.  I have been to Canada twice now, and I prefer stayijng with a host family to staying in an apartment or house."  Benedicte, Germany

"I'm happy about homestay because it's a good way to learn English and you are never alone."

Ines, Switzerland.

Homestay Story !

Today, Halloween, I saw lots of carved pumpkins (Jack O'lanterns) in front of my friend’s house.

We went Trick-or-Treating.  Elly pretended to be a witch. Her face looked as if she were a real witch. At the first house, we knocked on the door and then the owner of that house opened the door and we said “trick or treat.” We walked around three neighbourhoods and got lots of candies and chocolate, enough to fill our bags. At night after dinner, I talked with my hostmother. She was asking me how to spell some vocabulary.   It was a great day. Shunsuke, Japan

Homestay - Guidelines for Students

The Homestay Experience is one of exchange and learning, with the possibility of long-term international friendships. Stewart College of Languages works hard to provide successful homestay experiences for our students.

When you choose to stay with one of our homestay families, you can expect that:

  • only your target language will be spoken in the home. (If you are studying English, your host family will speak English. If you are studying French, they will speak French, and so on.)
  • you will be treated like a member of the family, with respect and courtesy
  • you will have your own separate bedroom, furnished with a comfortable bed, desk, desk light, chair and a chest of drawers.
  • your host family will help you find your way around Victoria , and to school.
  • you will receive three meals a day, and snacks will be available in the home.
  • you will have the ongoing support of the school and our Homestay Coordinator, if you have any questions or concerns from time to time.

Homestay Fees

Stewart College charges a small administration fee on top of the host family fee, to help cover costs associated with managing a quality homestay program.
